GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum football coach Jerry Odom and his coaching staff will be participating in the "Coach to Cure Muscular Dystrophy" program, when the Pioneers host Lenoir-Rhyne this Saturday night (Sep. 30) at the Niswonger Sports Complex and Pioneer Field. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
At all college football games played this weekend (Sep. 28-30), Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) are promoting Coach to Cure MD, a nationwide event designed to raise awareness about Duchenne (pronounced DOO-SHIN) muscular dystrophy.
AFCA member coaches from around the country will be wearing the "Coach to Cure MD" patch and speaking about Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most common fatal childhood genetic disorder. A progressive muscle disorder that causes loss of muscle function and independence, Duchenne affects approximately one out of every 3,500 live male births across all races and cultures.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of this even as the Coach to Cure MD initiative has raised over $1.4 million for Duchenne research.
