Bartlett, Boyd named AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Brandyn Bartlett and Jay Boyd have been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week.  Bartlett was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Boyd garnered Special Team Player of the Week honors.

The Tusculum duo led the Pioneers to a 38-28 road win at Catawba College on Saturday, which was TC's first victory in Salisbury, North Carolina since 2010 and snapped a five-game road losing streak dating back to last year.

Bartlett, a senior linebacker from Dacula, Georgia, recorded 10 tackles, including three for loss and two sacks in Saturday's victory.  Bartlett, who returned to the TC line-up after missing the last two games due to injury, came back with a vengeance as the Tusculum defense forced a pair of turnovers and held the defending SAC Champions to 342 yards on the day.

Boyd, a freshman from Viera, Florida, posted a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Catawba Indians.  Boyd's return was the third longest in school history.  He finished the day with 151 all-purpose yards including 122 kickoff return yards, 17 yards on a punt return and 12 yards on his fifth interception of the season.  That pick set up a Tusculum field goal, capping a 17-0 run by the Pioneers.

Tusculum (3-7, 2-4 SAC) will wrap up its season this Saturday afternoon when they host arch-rival Carson-Newman University in the annual battle for US 11-E.  Kick-off is set for 1:30 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
