Terrence Smith named SAC Defensive Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Terrence Smith has been named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week announced league officials Monday.

Smith, a 6-6, 240-pound senior defensive end from Riverdale, Ga., recorded a career-high 17 tackles last Saturday against arch-rival Carson-Newman. Smith accounted for a sack, along with eight solo tackles. His 17-tackle performance is tied for the seventh most in a single-game at Tusculum.

The 2010 All-Region honoree is second on the team with 60 tackles, including eight tackles for loss and a team-best six sacks (T7th in TC history).

During his career, Smith has been a menace to opposing offensive backfields. He has recorded 176 career tackles in his 43 games, including 38 for loss and 15 tackles, both sixth all-time in TC history.

The Pioneers (2-8, 1-5 SAC) will close out the season this Saturday when they host Wingate for a 1:30 p.m. contest at Pioneer Field.
