GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum Spirit Squad will be holding tryouts for the 2018-2019 cheer and dance teams as we;; as the All-Female STUNT teams April 14-15 at the auxiliary gym on the Greeneville campus announced Spirit Coordinator Jessica Inscore. Check-in and registration begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.
Participants are asked to bring the following: Letter of acceptance for enrollment to Tusculum or a current Tusculum Student ID, waiver/application and $25 tryout fee per participant (cash or make check payable Tusculum Spirit Squad).
Participants will be judged on jumps, standing/running tumbling, stunt, cheer (taught the day of tryout) and Tusculum Fight Song for Cheer (taught day of tryout).
Cheer participants are asked to wear the following: Females – black shorts, white fitted top and cheer shoes. Males – black shorts, orange shirt, athletic, cheer or dance shoes. All cheer participants will learn one cheer, one chant and the Tusculum Fight Song.
Dance Team participants will be judged on: kicks, short dance (taught day of tryout) and Tusculum Fight Song for Dance (taught day of tryout). Participants wanting to try out for dance must bring their own 45-second routine (with music).
Dance Team participants are asked to wear the following: black dance pants, black top and dance shoes.
Those interested in the all-female competitive STUNT team will need to have tumbling skills. No less than a round off back handspring and a standing back handspring. Flyers need to show a lib, arabesque and a toe touch basket (spots and bases provided), sharp motions and clean jumps!
On Sunday, April 15, there will be an open practice held from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. with judging beginning at 11:15 a.m. Each participant will also have a five-minute interview with head coach and staff. This is a closed session and only participants, coaches and judges will be permitted.
After tryouts are concluded, the teams will be announced and there will be a team meeting with a uniform fitting session to close out the day.
