GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Fuzzy Furr went 4-for-4 with five RBI to the Tusculum University baseball team to a 16-6 win over No. 33 Young Harris College Wednesday at Pioneer Park.
The Pioneers (9-4) record their sixth consecutive win while scoring 10 or more runs in four of its last five contests. TU mustered 14 hits and a dozen walks to knock off the defending Peach Belt Conference Tournament champions.
Furr got on board in all six of his plate appearances which included three singles, one double, a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Tusculum rallied from an early 1-0 deficit, plating six runs in the second inning, including a pair of hits by Furr who singled and scored in his first time up and drove in two with his two-out single to give TU a 6-1 lead. Tusculum extended the lead in the third inning to 7-1 on Jake Wapinsky's RBI hit.
The Mountain Lions (6-2) plated its second run of the game in the fourth inning when Jackson Jones reached on a one-out triple and scored from third on Dahlton Cash's sacrifice fly. The Pioneers answered the YHC scoring tally with one of their own in the bottom of the fourth when Bryson Ford was hit by a pitch and later score on Furr's RBI double for an 8-2 TU lead.
Young Harris made it 8-5 with three runs in the fifth, but the Pioneers scored three runs each in the sixth and seventh innings and added two more in the eighth as TU improved its home record to 7-1.
TU's Trey Hinton accounted for two hits, two walks and three RBI, while Brandon Trammell and Wapinsky each tallied a pair of hits in the victory.
Young Harris' Oscar Serratos led the visitors with his two hits and two RBI.
Tusculum's Trent Collins (1-0), in a scheduled start, picked up the victory, while Young Harris starter Cole Edwards suffered the loss.
The Pioneers will open South Atlantic Conference play this weekend when they host fifth-ranked Catawba College for a three-game series beginning with Saturday's 1 p.m. doubleheader. Prior to Saturday's games, Tusculum will be retiring the number of former TU head coach Doug Jones beginning at 12:40 p.m.
