DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The Embry-Riddle baseball team scored six runs in the second inning and led wire-to-wire in an 11-5 win over visiting Tusculum Monday afternoon at Silwa Stadium.
Andrew Martinez went 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Mike Lawson also scored three times in his 3-for-4 day as the Eagles (2-1) finished the game with 15 hits.
Tusculum (1-3) was held to seven hits on the afternoon including Daalen Adderley's two-hit performance while outfielder Fuzzy Furr belted his first home run in a Pioneer uniform.
Reliever J.C. Carrell (1-0) picked up the win for ERAU going 3.1 innings while allowing two hits, one run, three walk and three strikeouts. TU starter Alec Lay (0-1) suffered the loss.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Eagles hit five consecutive doubles start the frame off the bats of Eric Feliz, Andrew Martinez, John Devine, Max Law and Cody Forster as Embry-Riddle took a 4-0 lead. ERAU added two more runs in the frame with Forster scoring on a passed ball and Lawson touching the plate on a two-out ground ball.
TU got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning as Brandon Trammell scored all the way from second base on Luis Ezra's sacrifice fly out to right field. The Eagles answered with a run in the third inning and two more in the fourth for a 9-1 lead.
Tusculum scored a run each in the sixth and seventh innings on a Chase Wullenweber sacrifice line out to left field and Furr hit a solo blast over the left field wall in the seventh.
ERAU answered with a run each in the seventh and eighth innings, while TU scored twice in their half of the eighth including a two-out RBI single from Daulton Martin.
In Monday's game, Martin broke the program's all-time record for career walks with the 107th of his career, breaking the previous mark set by Sean Cotten (106 from 2008-2011). Martin also moved up the TU hits ladder with his 219th career hit, moving into a tie for third place with Cotten.
TU reliever Sam Loew pitched well in his Pioneer debut as he tossed three shutout innings and worked around two hits with zero walks and two strikeouts.
Tusculum will host Southeast Region foe Belmont Abbey this weekend for a three-game series at Pioneer Park beginning with Friday's 5 p.m. home opener.
