Hall, Hinton named NCAA Statistical National Champions

INDIANAPOLIS --- Tusculum University baseball student-athletes Charles Hall and Trey Hinton have been named 2019 NCAA Division II national statistical champions.

Hall's 148 total strikeouts this past season led all Division II pitchers, while Hinton led the country averaging 1.26 walks per game.

Hall, a senior right-hander from Dumfries, Virginia, recorded the second-most strikeouts in program history and fourth in South Atlantic Conference history.  His 14.86 strikeouts per nine innings pitched average was tops in the league and fourth in NCAA II.  Last March, he established a new Division II single-game record with his 22-strikeout performance against Queens University of Charlotte.  In his 13 starts in 2019, he posted 10 or more strikeouts on 10 occasions, was a consensus All-Region selection and was tabbed the SAC Pitcher of the Year.

Hall was also ranked 30th in the country in earned run average (2.31) and 36th in hits allowed per nine innings pitched (6.62).  He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 33rd round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and is currently on the roster for the AZL Athletics Gold Team.

Hinton, a rising junior from Knoxville, Tennessee, totaled 49 total walks which were seventh in the land and third in the league.  His walk total was also the fourth-most in a TU single-season.

Tusculum finished the 2019 campaign with a 30-21 overall record and finished tied for third place in the conference.  For TU it was the program's 16th season with 30 or more wins in the last 17 years.

Earlier this year, Tusculum women's basketball guard Mia Long was the NCAA II statistical champion for steals per game, averaging a Division II-best 3.96 per contest.
