Montgomery named summer league player of the week

CHICAGO, Ill. --- Tusculum University catcher Nate Montgomery has been named the Midwest Collegiate League Player of the Week. 

Montgomery, who is playing for the Northwest Indiana Oilmen this summer, went 5-for-10 this past week with four doubles, four runs scored and seven RBI to lead his team to a 3-0 record with victories against the Joliet Generals, Crestwood Panthers and the Southland Vikings to extended the Oilmen's winning streak to eight games.  He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI in the win over Southland.

Montgomery is batting .365 this summer and leads the MCL in home runs (4), hits (23), doubles (6), RBI (20) and runs scored (19).

Montgomery, a rising senior from Geneva, Illinois, batted .315 in his first Tusculum campaign this past spring where he finished third on the team with 58 hits including 11 doubles which were second on the squad. He also posted one triple, one home run and 38 RBI in his 50 games behind the plate.

The Northwest Indiana Oilmen are located in Whiting, Indiana and are currently 12-8 which is third in the MCL standings.

The Midwest Collegiate League is a summer wood bat baseball league which plays a nine-week, 50-game schedule.
