Martin, Pioneers listed in NCAA baseball statistics

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum baseball team is listed in this week's NCAA Division II national statistics.  TC is ranked in the top-25 in seven team categories and six Pioneers are listed individually.

Tusculum has turned 46 double plays this season which are the second-most in the nation and just four behind national leader Columbus State (50).  TC's 46 twin-killings are eighth in the school record book.

Tusculum is also ninth in the land in sacrifice bunts (41), 12th in runs scored (343), 15th in hit batsmen (63), 17th in total hits (447), 22nd in triples (14) and 23rd in doubles (83).

Sophomore infielder Daulton Martin is mentioned six times in this week's national statistics, including hits and triples where he is listed second in the country.  He has totaled 73 hits this season which are four behind national leader Chance Bowden of Catawba.  Martin seven triples are one behind national leader Dion Williams of Arkansas-Ft. Smith.  Martin's seven triples are tied for third in school history.

Martin's .408 batting average leads the team and is second in the South Atlantic Conference and 42nd in the country.  Martin had his school-record 56-game on-base streak halted Tuesday night in TC's 9-7 win over Lee University.  His 116 total bases are 10th in the nation and he is also ranked 15th in doubles (17), 20th in runs scored (48).

Junior outfielder Jarel McDade leads the Pioneers with his 53 runs scored which are second in the conference and seventh in the nation.  McDade is also listed 18th in NCAA II in being hit by pitch 14 times which are also third-most by a Pioneer in a season.

Freshman infielder Bryson Ford is ninth in the country with his nine sacrifice bunts, while junior outfielder Zack Finchum is 38th with his seven bunts.  Junior catcher Nate Montgomery is 28th in being hit by a pitch 13 times while junior pitcher Mitch McCain has made 20 appearances which are 18th most in the country.

The Pioneers (23-22, 13-11 SAC) are back in action this weekend when they host arch-rival Carson-Newman for a three-game series beginning with Friday's 6 p.m. contest at Pioneer Park.
