Tusculum listed in final NCAA baseball statistics

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum baseball team finished the season ranked in eight team categories, while three Pioneers were listed individually in the final 2017 NCAA Division II national statistics.

The Pioneers boasted the 10th-best strikeout-to-walk ratio in the country at 2.95 which was tops in the South Atlantic Conference. The team's 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings pitched average was 11th in the nation.  Defensively, TC averaged 0.88 double plays turned per game, which was best in the league and 27th in NCAA II. 

TC was also 33rd nationally in scoring (7.5 rpg), 37th in batting average (.315), 41st in walks allowed per nine innings (3.13), 45th in sacrifice flies (25) and 50th in doubles per game (2.02).

Sophomore pitcher Tim Hardy finished 29th in the country with his nine pitching victories, while also placing 33rd in strikeouts (94) and 37th in strikeouts per nine innings (10.80). 

Senior pitcher Ethan Carpenter led the Pioneers with his 95 strikeouts, which were second in the SAC and 30th in NCAA II.

Senior outfielder Dante Key recorded a league-leading seven sacrifice flies, which were 15th in the country. 

Tusculum finishes the season with a 30-20 record for the program's 17th consecutive winning season and 15th straight 30-win campaign.
