Pioneers down EKU in event finale

RICHMOND, Ky. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball team avenged the recent loss to Eastern Kentucky with a 3-2 victory in the EKU Beach Tournament finale. The Pioneers also won 3-2 in the exhibition match versus Liberty's club team.

Tusculum (6-9) will play its lone home series of the season on its next competition date. The Pioneers will host Morehead State in a noon doubleheader on April 3.

Match 1: Tusculum 3, Eastern Kentucky 2
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but were unable to clinch until the final flight.

Charlyn Miller and Katie McLamb fought for a three-set victory at No. 4: 17-21, 21-16, 16-14.

Riley Rushing and Landry Tea finished soon after, also in the three-set grudge match with nearly identical scores: 16-21, 21-16, 18-16.

EKU scored its first point with a flight three comeback over Kyle Oppenhuis and Jordyn Anderson with a 22-24, 21-15, 15-12.

The only straight-set flight was at No.1 in favor of the Colonels. Kassidy Mercado and Morgan Pacione dropped a 21-11, 21-19 decision at the top.

Hannah Marsh and Emma Johnson withstood a battle at No. 2 for the match-clinching point. The pair won 21-14, 19-21, 15-4.
