GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball played its first matches at the brand new facility on the TU campus on Saturday (Feb. 19), continuing the perfect start with a pair of sweeps. The Pioneers (5-0) downed the first-year Truett McConnell program in straight sets.
Haley Davis, Emma Johnson, Charlyn Miller, Olivia O'Keefe, Britney Shawel, and Landry Tea have now won all five of their matches this season as well.
Tusculum stays home for another full weekend, beginning with Chattanooga on Friday (Feb. 25), with a scheduled start time of 10 a.m.
Match 1: Tusculum 5, Truett McConnell 0
Shawel and Tea highlighted the home opener with their domination in the third flight (21-6, 21-8).
Miller and O'Keefe stayed perfect in the top flight with a 21-11, 21-9 showing, while the Davis/Johnson pairing continued their program-altering partnership with a 21-15, 21-12 victory.
The freshmen duo of Katie McLamb and Olivia Knutson won their third contest in as many tries via their 21-16, 21-15 score.
Skyellar Hall and Emily Lawless also claimed their third-straight win as partners in an identical 21-13, 21-13 outcome.
Diana Bierwagen and Arizona Webb tallied a 21-16, 21-8 decision in the exhibition match.
Match 2: Tusculum 5, Truett McConnell 0
The pairing remained the same in the second half of the doubleheader. However, Bierwagen and Webb moved up to the No. 5 flight and Destiny Ramsey and Morgan Pacione took over the exhibition slot.
O'Keefe and Miller eased by their top flight competition, 21-6, 21-3.
Davis and Johnson won by a solid margin in their 21-9, 21-8 final.
The Shawel/Tea duo collected a 21-9, 21-11 point total.
Knutson and McLamb won the tightly-contested first set 21-19, but the Lady Bears were forced to retire due to injury.
In their debut at No. 5, Bierwagen and Webb tallied a 21-7, 21-14 victory.
Competing together for the first time in the exhibition flight, Ramsey and Pacione claimed the 21-13, 21-11 decision.
