Brian Stayton
The Voice of the Pioneers
The Pioneer Sports Network handles all broadcasts of Tusculum University Athletics on WSMG Radio (95.5 FM & 1450 AM), and on the Internet at www.tusculumpioneers.com. The broadcast team of Brian Stayton, Joe Byrd, Justin Jeffers and executive producer Nathan Humbard will describe all the action.
Stayton has been the "Voice of the Pioneers" since 1997, and is entering his 25th year behind the microphone calling Tusculum football and basketball games in the fall of 2021.
Stayton has served a variety of roles in the Greeneville broadcast community as an on-air personality and program director for Radio Greeneville (WGRV, WIKQ, WSMG). He continues to call play-by-play for Greene County football and Greeneville High School boys and girls basketball, and has also handled play-by-play coverage for the Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic basketball tournament and the Greeneville Astros.
Stayton is also the host of the "Jerry Odom Show" during football season on WSMG Jewel 95.5 FM, which features interviews with players and a recap and preview of the Pioneers' schedule. He has also hosted weekly online coaches shows for Tusculum and produces "This Week In Tusculum Athletics" for both radio and Web. Stayton also emcees events including the annual Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony and the "Evening with the Pioneers" awards banquet in the spring.
A native of South Bend, Indiana and a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, Stayton attended Carson-Newman University where he was an All-South Atlantic Conference selection as a member of the Eagles' men's soccer team. He graduated from Carson-Newman in 1995 and gained experience with several radio outlets, including WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked with the Cincinnati Reds broadcast team.
Stayton is married to the former Erin Hahlen of Greeneville and they have two children, son Connor and daughter Gabrielle.
