Trammell, Long named Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month for March

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University outfielder Brandon Trammell and guard Mia Long have been named the Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month for February.

Trammell, a junior from Knoxville, Tennessee, batted .485 (16-of-33) with 17 RBI and 11 runs scored in his eight starts in the outfield.  The TU baseball team went 5-3 during the month including 4-2 in South Atlantic Conference play.

He posted multiple-hit performances five times including twice where he posted four hits against UVa-Wise and Embry-Riddle.  He went 8-for-12 in the series against UVa-Wise including 4-for-6 with six RBI in the final contest of the three-game set.  He also went 6-of-9 in the two-game mid-week series with Embry-Riddle.

Trammell finished the abbreviated TU campaign leading the team with his .349 batting average and 26 RBI. He tied for the team-lead with six doubles and his two home runs were fourth on the roster. The Pioneers finished the season with 15-10 overall record.

Long led the Tusculum women's basketball team to a perfect 3-0 record in the month of March, all coming in the Pilot/Flying J SAC Championship.  She was named most valuable player of the tournament after scoring a game-high 22 points as the Pioneers rallied for a 61-49 win over Anderson in the title game. In her three games during the month, Long averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.3 steals per contest to lead the Pioneers to their first SAC Tournament title since 2011.

In TU's SAC quarterfinal win against Wingate, Long tallied 13 points, eight assists and eight steals in an 82-40 victory. The Ann Arbor, Michigan native followed with 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to help the Pioneers to an 81-73 win over Carson-Newman in the SAC semifinal round. In the championship game, Long shot 7-for-15 from the field and 6-for-9 from the foul line, with five rebounds and four steals while playing all 40 minutes for the second time in 24 hours. Against Anderson, Long broke the Tusculum single-season record for steals with 112, surpassing the old mark of 109 set by Mitzi Alexander during the 1991-92 season.

Long, who garnered All-SAC first team laurels and All-Southeast Region second team honors, ranks ninth in the league in scoring at 14.4 points per game and in steals at 3.61 per outing.  She scored in double figures in 13 of the Pioneers' last 14 games and had at least one steal in all but one of the Pioneers' 31 games this season.

The Tusculum women finished the year with a 24-7 overall record and earned the program its sixth NCAA Tournament bid.
