GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University cross country runner Nicole McMillen and soccer forward Henrique Devens have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week. McMillen earns this honor for a third time this season while Devens garners his second Zaxby's accolade.
McMillen gave the Tusculum women's cross country team its first South Atlantic Conference individual champion since Amanda Musick in 2003 by winning the conference meet at Wingate on Saturday. McMillen finished more than 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Hannah Wolkenhauer of Queens, who was the 2017 SAC champion. The victory was the fourth in five races this season for the Pickering, Ontario native, who was fifth at last year's SAC Championship in her first-ever collegiate race. Her time of 21:37.4 over the six-kilometer course helped the Pioneers to a sixth-place finish in the final meet standings.
Devens became the first Pioneer men's soccer player to score a hat trick in just over 10 years in a 5-2 victory over Coker on Sunday at Pioneer Field. Devens scored in the 21st, 62nd and 77th minute and also assisted on a goal by Nikola Vujicic in the 83rd minute, making him the first Pioneer with three goals and an assist in a single match since 2007. The Aracruz, Brazil native leads the Pioneers and is tied for third in the South Atlantic Conference with eight goals, and is third in the conference with 21 points. Devens is tied for the SAC lead in goals in conference-only matches with six and leads all players with 16 points in conference contests.
The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
