Guervil, McMillen named Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month for April

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University sprinter Widchard Guervil and distance runner Nicole McMillen have been named the Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month for April. McMillen earns this honor for a second time this year.

Guervil won the 100 meters and 200 meters and was part of the Pioneer 4x100-meter relay team that finished second at the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Guervil ran 10.32 in the 100 finals and 21.40 in the 200 finals to earn double gold, and ran the second leg in the 4x100 relay that ran 40.89 seconds and placed second.

Guervil opened the month by winning the 100 meters at the Lenoir-Rhyne Classic in 10.50 seconds, while running in the 4x100 relay that took second in 41.26 seconds. On April 13, Guervil set school records in both the 100 (10.31) and 200 (20.86) while finishing in the top 10 in both events at the Gamecock Invitational at the University of South Carolina. The Fort Myers, Florida sophomore ended the month by competing at the 125th Penn Relays and running in the 4x100 relay that advanced to the Championship of America, finishing eighth in 41.45 seconds in a nationally-televised race that included eight Division I opponents.

Guervil is currently ranked fourth in Division II in the 100 meters with his time of 10.31 seconds set at the Gamecock Invitational, while his time of 20.86 from the Gamecock Invitational currently stands seventh among all Division II runners. Guervil is also part of the 4x100 relay that is ranked 25th in Division II.

McMillen was named the SAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year after becoming the first female athlete to win gold in three distance events at the SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She opened the meet by winning the 3000-meter steeplechase in a meet-record time of 10:49.93, then on the final day won the 1500 meters in 4:40.84 and the 5000 meters in 17:55.64.

Earlier in the month, the senior from Pickering, Ontario won the steeplechase at the Lenoir-Rhyne Classic on April 6 with a time of 10:51.34. At the Gamecock Invitational at the University of South Carolina on April 13, McMillen set a school record in the 1500 meters and placed eighth in 4:38.21, which is the fifth-best time in SAC history.

McMillen is currently ranked 19th in Division II in the steeplechase at 10:49.93, while her time of 4:38.21 in the 1500 is currently second-best in the Southeast Region. She also ranks sixth in the Southeast Region in the 5000 meters with her time of 17:55.64.
