GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University sprinter Widchard Guervil and distance runner Nicole McMillen have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week. Guervil earns this honor for a third straight week, while McMillen garners athlete of the week accolades for a sixth time this year.
Guervil swept both the 100 and 200 meter races and was also a part of TU's 4x100 meter relay team that finished runner up at the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend.
McMillen, a senior from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, captured three gold medals and was named the SAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. McMillen opened by winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Thursday and followed with first place finishes in both the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters.
Guervil and McMillen led the each of their teams to fifth place finishes overall at the SAC Championship. For the men, it was a five-spot improvement from last year while the women's climbed four spots from its ninth place showing at the 2018 league meet.
The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
