McDade, Davis named Zaxby's Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University baseball outfielder Jarel McDade and beach volleyball player Haley Davis have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.  McDade earns this honor for a second straight week while Davis garners her inaugural weekly accolade.

McDade, a senior from Magnolia, Texas, continued his hot hitting as he went 10-of-15 at the plate in four games last week which including two doubles, one triple and a home run.  He batted .667 on the week including 9-of-11 in TU's South Atlantic Conference series win over Coker College.  He went 9-of-11 against Cobras while posting an .833 on-base percentage and a 1.364 slugging percentage.

He currently has a six-game hitting streak and has raised his batting average 71 points to its current .295 for the season.  During his last six games he has accounted for 12 RBI while batting 15-of-23 (.652).

Davis posted a perfect 4-0 record last weekend as she helped the TU beach volleyball program to a 3-1 record in Jefferson City in a double round-robin with Carson-Newman University and Eastern Kentucky University.  Davis and No. 1 doubles teammate Melissa Mazur won in straight sets in its first three matches of the weekend.  Davis and Mazur posted the deciding point in the third set in a 3-2 win over Carson-Newman.

Davis has a 9-8 record in doubles in TU's inaugural campaign while the Pioneers have improved to 7-10 overall.

The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville.  The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
