GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University guard Donovan Donaldson and beach volleyball player Melissa Mazur have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Donaldson, a senior from Nashville, Tennessee, averaged 25.5 points per game in leading the TU men's basketball team to a pair of home wins over Lincoln Memorial and Wingate to close out the regular-season. He scored 27 points in the Pioneers' 78-76 win over LMU, snapping a 24-game losing streak to the Railsplitters. He followed with a 24-point effort against Wingate to claim the No. 4 seed in this week's South Atlantic Conference Tournament. He earns his fourth Zaxby's Athlete of the Week honor. The Pioneers (16-12) have won six consecutive games and seven of their last eight.
Mazur, a senior from Chicago, Illinois, posted a 3-1 record at the top-flight with teammate Lana Vujosevic as the duo won six of the nine sets they played in. Tusculum, which is playing in its inaugural season of beach volleyball, opened with wins against Principia (5-0), Stevenson (3-2) and Carson-Newman (4-1). TU's only loss came against Morehead State. Mazur and Vujosevic won 2-1 against Principia and posted straight set wins against Carson-Newman and Stevenson.
The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
