GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University basketball forward Caleb Hodnett and track & field athlete Destini Wilson have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Hodnett, a junior from Adolphus, Kentucky, scored a career-high 27 points in Tusculum's 96-91 double-overtime win at Newberry on Saturday. On the week, Hodnett averaged a team-high 21 points per game and shot 15-of-25 from the floor (60%) as the Pioneers split its two South Atlantic Conference games. On Wednesday, he posted 15 points going 5-of-9 from the floor, hauled in six rebounds and blocked two shots in a 68-66 loss to Anderson. He followed with nine rebounds and shot 10-of-16 from the field as TU erased a 14-point second half deficit, closing out regulation with a 12-2 run including Hodnett's game-tying basket with 22 seconds remaining.
Wilson placed sixth in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) and seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.30 meters (17 feet, 4 3/4 inches), both school records, at the ETSU Buccaneer Invitational. Wilson was the first women's high jumper in program history and did not miss on her first three attempts before needed a second try to clear her final height and capture sixth place in the event, and move into a tie for fourth on the SAC performance list. In the long jump, the Boynton Beach, Florida freshman had a mark of 5.29 meters in trials, then slightly improved in the finals with a distance of 5.30 meters for seventh place overall. Both leaps broke her own record of 5.23 meters set at the ETSU Invitational last month and placed her fourth in the SAC this season.
The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
