GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University basketball guards Donovan Donaldson and Mia Long have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Donaldson, a senior from Nashville, Tennessee averaged 17 points and 6.5 rebounds per game to lead Tusculum to a perfect 2-0 record last week with victories over Lee University and Lander University.
He led all scorers with 19 points in TU's 79-56 road win at Lee, snapping a 16-game losing streak to the Flames, ending a drought spanning 32 years. It was also Tusculum's first win at Lee since 1980. Donaldson went 7-of-12 from the floor including 4-of-5 from three-point land. He also dished out two assists.
In Tusculum's 84-61 home-opening win over Lander, Donaldson added 15 points and seven boards as the Pioneers have won three of its last four games. He also finished the game shooting 6-of-6 at the free throw line.
Donaldson is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game and is shooting 11-of-24 from beyond the arc (45.8%). He is also averaging 5.5 rebounds per contest.
Long, a junior from Ann Arbor, Michigan, recorded 14 points, four assists and three steals in Tusculum's 74-48 victory over 2018 NCAA II Tournament participant Virginia State University. Long shot 5-for-9 from the field and went 4-of-5 from the free throw line as TU remained undefeated on the young season to improve to 4-0.
Long is second on the team averaging 10.8 points per game while leading the South Atlantic Conference with her 3.75 steals per contest (T15th in NCAA II). She anchors a Pioneer team that leads the league in scoring defense (53.5 ppg – 31st in NCAA II) and steals per game (13.8 ppg – 10th in NCAA II).
