Winter, McMillen named Zaxby's Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University forward Jonny Winter and cross country runner Nicole McMillen have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.  McMillen earns this honor for a second time this fall, but a first as a cross country runner. Winter earns his inaugural Zaxby's honor of the year.

Winter was named Most Valuable Player of the South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Championship tournament after scoring a goal in each of the Pioneers' three victories, which gave Tusculum its third tournament title in the past five years and a conference-record seventh overall.

The Heathfield, England native scored in the final minute of Tusculum's 3-1 win over Wingate in the conference quarterfinals on Tuesday, then delivered an insurance goal in the 56th minute of the Pioneers' 2-0 semifinal win over Carson-Newman on Friday. In the championship match, Winter scored the first goal of the match with 19:41 remaining to help Tusculum beat Anderson 2-1 in the finals on Sunday.

McMillen, a four-year starter for the Tusculum women's soccer team, made her first and only SAC Cross Country Championship meet a memorable one as she came in fifth overall with a time of 22:26.2 over the six-kilometer course.

The Pickering, Ontario native, who finished fourth in the 5,000 meters at the SAC Indoor Track and Field Championship last winter, became the first Tusculum runner to earn first-team honors in women's cross country since SAC and Tusculum Hall of Famer Amanda Musick did so for the fourth straight year in 2004.

The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville.  The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
