GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University linebacker Ivan Hogans and tennis player Annie McCullough have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Hogans, a sophomore from Stockbridge, Georgia, recorded a career-high four tackles for loss in Tusculum's 14-0 shutout over Newberry on Saturday. Hogans finished the game with seven tackles including a sack, a forced fumble and a pass break-up. His four tackles behind the line of scrimmage are tied for the sixth-most in program history. TU held the Wolves to 192 yards, the fewest by a Newberry team in 12 years.
In his six starts this year, Hogans leads the Pioneers with 52 tackles including seven for loss, with two sacks, one interception and three pass break-ups.
McCullough, a junior from Belfast, Northern Ireland, captured singles and doubles titles at the Grizzly Open this weekend in Georgia. She won three of her four matches in tiebreakers, including a 6-3, 1-6, (11-9) win over Henar Munoz of host and nationally-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College in the A Draw Championship match. She also teamed with her twin sister, Caitlin, for four wins in the doubles draw, beating Munoz and Margarida Abreu 9-7 in the finals.
Annie McCullough, seeded fifth in the A Draw, defeated Lea Krajcovicova of Alabama State 7-5, 6-0 in the round of 16, and then downed fourth-seeded Reka Szentes of Alabama State 6-7, 6-3, (10-4) in the quarterfinals. McCullough edged top-seeded Ceire Mullins of Georgia Gwinnett in the semifinals by a 6-4, 2-6, (10-8) score, then got past Munoz, the 11th-ranked singles player in the NAIA last year, for the championship.
