GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum sprinter Widchard Guervil and golfer Ciara Rattana have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week. Guervil earns his sixth Bojangles honor this year while Rattana garners her inaugural accolade this season.
Guervil, a freshman from Fort Myers, Florida, set a meet record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100 meters, and also posted a provisional time in the 200 meters, as the Pioneers competed at the Terrier Relays in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Guervil's time of 10.49 seconds in the 100 meters is tied for the seventh-fastest in Division II this season, while his 200 meter time of 21.32 seconds put him in a tie for 13th on the performance list. The freshman also anchored the 4x100 relay team of which finished in third place with a time of 41.67 seconds.
Rattana, a senior from Western Springs, Illinois, captured medalist honors at the 21st annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Tournament at Link Hills Country Club. The three-time All-South Atlantic Conference first team choice, shot a three-round score of 224 including a two-under par 70 in her final competitive round at Link Hills. She won by one stroke over teammate Cydney Murrell.
Rattana sparked the Pioneers to rally from a 19-stroke deficit to win the team title at the McAmis Memorial by 11 shots. For Tusculum, it was its second team championship this year.
Rattana leads the team with her 76.10 stroke average which is on pace to be a new Tusculum single-season record. Her 77.56 career scoring average is second in Pioneer history.
