Guervil, Haas named Bojangles Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum sprinter Widchard Guervil and lacrosse standout Sierra Haas have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week.  Guervil earns this honor for a third time this year while Haas garners her inaugural honor.

Guervil lowered his NCAA Division II qualifying time in the 60 meters for the second straight day, finishing fourth in Saturday's finals with a time of 6.81 seconds after running 6.82 seconds in the semifinals Friday night. The Fort Myers, Florida native currently ranks third in the South Atlantic Conference in the event, and is currently tied for 13th nationally on the Division II performance list.

Haas finished with three goals and two assists for a career-high five points as the Pioneers opened the season with a 17-5 win over Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field. Haas scored two goals and had an assist in the first half to help the Pioneers build a 10-2 lead, then added a second-half goal and assist as the Pioneers won their season opener for the fourth straight season. The junior from Canton, Georgia scored on all three of her shot attempts and also had one ground ball in the victory.

The Tusculum College Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Bojangles, located at 3240 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville.  The Bojangles Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
