GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum basketball guard Zailan Peeler and track distance runner Nicole McMillen have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week.
Peeler, a freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina, averaged 19 points per game and shot 57.9 percent from the floor in the Pioneers two games last week. The Myers Park High School graduate went 11-of-19 from the floor, including 9-of-15 from three-point territory (60%). He also went 7-of-8 at the free throw line (87.5%). He poured in 15 points and dished out two assists at No. 2 Lincoln Memorial last Wednesday. He followed that with a season-high 23 points against Catawba as he connected on six treys in the first half. Peeler is averaging 6.7 points and 1.5 rebounds per game while seeing action in all 20 contests this year.
McMillen, a junior from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, had a season-best time of 11:08.60 in the 3000 meters and ran 19:18.60 in the 5000 meters at the Liberty Kickoff, finishing 11th overall out of 20 runners in the 5000 and second in her section. McMillen's time in the 3000 meters was 15 seconds faster than her previous season best and was the fastest performance by a Tusculum runner this season. On the latest South Atlantic Conference performance list, McMillen ranks 10th in the 5000 meters and is just outside the top 10 in the 3000 meters.
The Tusculum College Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Bojangles, located at 3240 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Bojangles Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
