GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum men's lacrosse attack Ben Boyd and women's golfer Ciara Rattana have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week. Rattana garners her third Athlete of the Week honor this season, while Boyd garners his first Athlete of the Week accolade.
Boyd, a senior from Bel Air, Maryland, scored three of his four goals during a first-quarter run as the 19th-ranked Pioneers defeated Mars Hill 12-7 for their fifth straight win. Boyd scored his three first-quarter goals in a span of eight minutes as the Pioneers took a 5-2 lead over the Lions. Boyd then scored the tying goal early in the third quarter to help the Pioneers outscore the Lions 7-1 in the second half.
Boyd leads the Pioneers with a career-high 32 goals and also has a team-high 42 points, and is three goals shy of becoming the first player in program history with 100 career goals.
Rattana, a junior from Western Springs, Illinois finished tied for third place at the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship, which was hosted by Tusculum at Link Hills Country Club. Rattana posted a three-day score of 76-75-75=226 to earn a spot on the SAC All-Tournament first team. Her 226 is the second-best 54-hole individual score in program history as she led Tusculum to a runner-up team finish in the championship.
Rattana finished the year with a school-record low 76.52 stroke average, breaking the previous mark held by former SAC Player of the Year Emee Herbert, carding a 76.71 average during the 2011-2012 campaign. Rattana finished the season with seven top-20 performances, including six times in the top-10 and five times in the top-five.
The Tusculum Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Bojangles, located at 3240 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Bojangles Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
