Shippy, Head named Bojangles Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College running back Jordon Shippy and guard Maelyn Head have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week.

Shippy, a native of Gaffney, South Carolina, scored the game-winning two-point conversion in Tusculum's 31-30 overtime victory over Carson-Newman on Saturday. TC quarterback Luke Lancaster rolled right and hit Shippy in the flat, and the redshirt freshman broke the plane at the goal line as his teammates swarmed the field in celebration of the Pioneers' first win over the Eagles since 2008. Shippy rushed for a season-high 81 yards on nine carries, including a 47-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Head, a senior from Greeneville, Tennessee, averaged 17.5 points and hit five three-pointers as the Pioneers opened the season with a 1-1 record at the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge at King University. Head scored 14 points and went 6-for-6 from the foul line in an 86-63 loss to King on Friday, then scored a game-high 21 points, including 12 in the second quarter, in a 63-57 victory over Lees-McRae on Saturday. Head was 10-for-11 from the foul line and added eight rebounds and four assists in the two games.
